JEREMY RUBY

HEAD OF DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT

Tell us about a typical day at work for you
Every day is different, but it usually starts early and ends late with catching up on development with the Asian factories. Next, there are a variety of tasks including CAD drawings, graphic design work, photography editing, working with licensors on approvals, etc. My role is not just designing a product or making something look stylish – it’s about understanding our customers’ needs and strategizing on how to exceed their expectations through quality and functionality.

What gives you most satisfaction in your role at LongLat?
Having been designing within the luggage industry for over 15 years now, I love the long history of the company and the dedication of our employees. I enjoy seeing my products out in the market place and get great satisfaction to see how well they have held up to the rigors of travel.

How does your role affect LongLat’s customers?
As a designer we always have our customers at the forefront of our design process – if they don’t feel connected to the product and most importantly the brand represented, then the whole message is lost.

What do you enjoy most about working at LongLat?
I love how everything we do is customer-focused, and that I have freedom to be creative. From the excitement of initial ideas, to the final approved collections, I enjoy watching my designs evolve through their various stages.

HUMAN RESOURCES / ADMINISTRATION

Tell us about a typical day at work for you
There are no routine days for me while working at LongLat. I work on Human Resource-related issues, product setup product approvals and project managing our current office renovation. Basically, I try my best to get through my day as productively as possible.

What gives you most satisfaction in your role at LongLat?
Accomplishing what I set out to do each day and helping out however I can, it’s an awesome day at the office! The best advice anyone gave me was: Don’t sweat the small stuff and it’s all small stuff. Every day is a great day.

How does your role affect LongLat’s customers?
I’m new to the industry, but my degree in Human Resource Management prepared me to recruit and hire highly skilled industry professionals for our growing global company. Our corporate culture has a focus on excellence … both for product and customer service.

What do you enjoy most about working at LongLat?
I do work in different areas of the company. It’s interesting to learn about the processes and what goes into making different departments run smoothly. Working around luggage all day let’s my mind wander to my favorite travel destination, Bermuda. It’s a beautiful island – and even more beautiful when it’s 15º outside.

MICHELLE DASHIELD

IMPORT LOGISTICS ADMINISTRATOR

Tell us about a typical day at work for you
There is nothing routine about my day. It usually starts very early and ends very late with catching up on production with numerous Asian factories. Then the ‘regular’ duties kick into high gear: placing purchase orders, confirming vessel shipments, creating new SKU numbers for new products, acquiring approval of new product development and final samples from each of the Licensing teams, and the list is never-ending. My role spans many areas of administration, tapping into my decades of industry experience.

What gives you most satisfaction in your role at LongLat?
Having been active in the luggage industry for almost 40 years now, I love being involved with bringing products to market, knowing I’ve assigned their names, ordered the materials to get them into our warehouses on time and ready for our customers to buy.

What do you enjoy most about working at LongLat?
The LongLat team affords me the latitude to work remotely from Pennsylvania, where I can continue to support ‘my’ Pittsburgh Steelers. My love for travel, with Hong Kong being my favorite travel destination, keeps me current with the industry trends.
