GARY PERELLA

PRESIDENT

How did you begin working for LongLat?
I started working with LongLat while I was building the fashion travel goods brand, GUESS, more than 7 years ago. We selected the LongLat factory network as our manufacturing partner. I was finally lured over to build my own team and brand portfolio with LongLat.

Tell us about a typical day at work for you
A typical day for me starts early by catching up on emails and customer calls, ensuring critical dates are on track, travel plans secured for meetings, and check the workload for the week ahead for myself and the team. We work together to develop products, from the initial concept through to their delivery at our warehouse. I attend meetings where I look at styles at different stages of their development, ensuring there is consistency of quality throughout all of our products. I also spend time making informed decisions about styles we’re working on for the future and can constantly improve our products for customers.

How did your background prepare you?
I’ve brought over three decades of experience in general management, operations and business development from fashion, lifestyle and travel goods industries to LongLat, during the company’s most significant expansion period. LongLat has developed a venerable reputation across the travel goods industry and my first responsibility will be continuing to deliver world-class service to our global customers. I look forward to spearheading some of the most fashionable, innovative new brands and products the travel goods industry has ever seen.

JEREMY RUBY

HEAD OF DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT

Tell us about a typical day at work for you
Every day is different, but it usually starts early and ends late with catching up on development with the Asian factories. Next, there are a variety of tasks including CAD drawings, graphic design work, photography editing, working with licensors on approvals, etc. My role is not just designing a product or making something look stylish – it’s about understanding our customers’ needs and strategizing on how to exceed their expectations through quality and functionality.

What gives you most satisfaction in your role at LongLat?
Having been designing within the luggage industry for over 14 years now, I love the long history of the company and the dedication of our employees. I enjoy seeing my products out in the market place and get great satisfaction to see how well they have held up to the rigors of travel.

How does your role affect LongLat’s customers?
As a designer we always have our customers at the forefront of our design process – if they don’t feel connected to the product and most importantly the brand represented, then the whole message is lost.

What do you enjoy most about working at LongLat?
I love how everything we do is customer-focused, and that I have freedom to be creative. From the excitement of initial ideas, to the final approved collections, I enjoy watching my designs evolve through their various stages.

MARCY SCHACKNE

VICE PRESIDENT, MARKETING

Tell us about a typical day at work for you
The best part of my day is that nothing is typical. Every day includes some time for researching/writing/posting on the LongLat, American Flyer and Jenni Chan social media platforms. We follow the most prominent travel journalists and industry influencers so our social communities can gain exposure into the most compelling travel content. Layer on PR, working with our licensing program and ecommerce initiatives, and that rounds out most days.

What gives you most satisfaction in your role at LongLat?
I really love the work I do. Having been active in the travel goods industry for nearly 20 years, the marketing department has a hand in product development, promotions, licensing, sales presentations, trade shows, public relations… I could go on and on!

What do you enjoy most about working at LongLat?
I get to bring my career-long consumer products knowledge to a team that gives the freedom to expand our brands and build social communities. I share my relationships with key travel suppliers and influential travel journalists to build our brands, social communities and garner greater exposure in the marketplace. The LongLat team is a true team and we all support each other in a most gratifying team environment.

I’m not a tourist, I’m a traveler, having been on all seven continents and 111 countries around the world. These experiences keep me current on global industry trends that can benefit our customers.

MICHELLE DASHIELD

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATOR

Tell us about a typical day at work for you
There is nothing routine about my day. It usually starts very early and ends very late with catching up on production with numerous Asian factories. Then the ‘regular’ duties kick into high gear: placing purchase orders, confirming vessel shipments, creating new SKU numbers for new products, acquiring approval of new product development and final samples from each of the Licensing teams, and the list is never-ending. My role spans many areas of administration, tapping into my decades of industry experience.

What gives you most satisfaction in your role at LongLat?
Having been active in the luggage industry for almost 40 years now, I love being involved with bringing products to market, knowing I’ve assigned their names, ordered the materials to get them into our warehouses on time and ready for our customers to buy.

What do you enjoy most about working at LongLat?
The LongLat team affords me the latitude to work remotely from Pennsylvania, where I can continue to support ‘my’ Pittsburgh Steelers. My love for travel, with Hong Kong being my favorite travel destination, keeps me current with the industry trends.
